Wearing a VR headset, a user engages in a playful experience, building a sculptural artwork from found objects in a virtual environment, as their work is summarily dissected by vapid and disruptive AI-generated criticism from an observing crowd.
Built in collaboration with Lidi Fu and in conjunction with K-Arts, Seoul. Shapeshifter is a prototype VR/XR experience; through satire, examining how we receive art criticism. Invoking experimental and playful uses of AI to explore the pressures and monotony of performing creativity amidst absurd critical structures.
Shapeshifter has been displayed at On Dream Society, Seoul, at Dutch Design Week, Eindhoven and at Reverse Alchemy at the RCA Hangar Space, London.
The experience was built for Meta Quest Pro in Unity with C# scripting, with 3D modeling completed mostly in Cinema4D. Play time is approx. 5 minutes, with user choice pushing them toward different endings. The project is open-source and available on Github.
Thanks to Carolina Ramirez-Figueroa from RCA and Campbell Orme and Petra Zhivkova from Meta Reality Labs for their support!
